Update 0.5


After a week of no updates, here's a huge update for No Downforce - version 0.5! Here's the changes:

Technical

  • Updated engine to Godot 4.4.dev7
  • Rewrote how demos are saved. This means that old demos are, yet again, no longer compatible with this version

Graphics

  • Added graphics settings - you can enable/disable fullscreen, V-Sync, reflections, shadow resolutions and various effects, as well as control their quality. You can also adjust resolution scale (no FSR yet, but it will be added later)
  • Improved shadow quality - faraway shadows now use baked shadowmasks
  • Adjusted car's material to make the reflections more visible

Physics

  • Moved away from the external Godot Jolt module, as Jolt Physics has been integrated into Godot
  • Made car physics much more stable on walls - no more wildly flying into the air when hitting a wall wrong

Audio

  • Improved audio - added brake squeal sound, improved tire screech sound
  • Added audio settings - you can adjust volumes of SFX, engine and background sounds

UI

  • Added input preview to demos
  • Added borders to buttons
  • Added placeholder for controls settings. The settings themselves will be added in a later version

Bug fixes

  • Fixed bug with resetting from the pause menu while a demo is playing

See you next update! The next one will probably finally be 1.0, but I'm not sure yet.
